I recently revisited a powerful conversation when LinkedIn invited me to share insights on planning for a career pivot, which feels even more relevant today.
That’s because many of us are now “in the middle” of a pivotal transition. That includes changing jobs, changing industries, or contemplating going back to school to upskill and earn new credentials.
But before you leap…
You should take a step back and ask yourself:
What is your Point B from your Point A?
Especially as we are at the beginning of a brand new year, and for many of us… a new chapter of transformation.
As I mentioned during the conversation, your community is your X factor. Whether it’s your colleagues, mentors, friends, mentees, family, etc.
They have watched you work. They’ve seen where you shine. They know your transferable skills, your unique strengths, and your overlooked superpowers across your career, even when you couldn’t see them yourself.
Then learn to align and communicate those magical moments throughout your personal and professional journey.
Remember…
A meaningful pivot isn’t just about acquiring new skills. It’s about connecting the dots of what you’ve already built, and amplifying that to the people that matter most in your story.
A meaningful pivot isn’t about starting over. It’s about recognizing what you’ve already built, and authoring what comes next.
A meaningful pivot isn’t about erasing your story. It’s about rewriting it.
That’s actually the power of the middle.
It’s not messy.
It’s magical.
