Why I Do This Work
At the heart of Adrion’s thought leadership is a powerful act of narrative repositioning. He identified a deeply pervasive cultural story: the myth of the “messy middle”, which frames life’s pivotal transitions as inevitable periods of stagnation, decline, and irrelevance.
But what if the “messy middle” was one of the biggest myths ever told?
Adrion’s authority comes from navigating his own messy middle. After two decades as a marketing executive for companies including HBO, Cartoon Network, and Citi — where he led brand development initiatives for some of the most narratively sophisticated properties in entertainment, he experienced his own career inflection point when he was laid off in his early forties.
Rather than viewing this as a setback, Adrion used it as a launchpad for rewriting his own career story and testing the very principles he now teaches through Mid-Career Mastery®.
That advantage was twenty years of professional storytelling. And what he discovered was that the same narrative principles used to build the world’s most compelling brands apply directly to the internal story every professional tells themselves about who they are and what’s still possible.
It’s now Adrion’s mission to deconstruct the messy middle myth and replace it with an empowering reframe: the magical middle. His approach is grounded in narrative identity — the science of how the stories we tell ourselves shape who we believe we are and what we believe is possible.
